7 February 1980; in which i'm a little brave, for once.
Warded Private.

I did not know either of the Averys well, though they were only a year below me. Still, I feel for their family--it is painful enough, losing those you love, but to have it dragged before the eyes of the entire world that way? I do not know this Jugson girl either, but she was obviously very disturbed, which is tragic. There is no good in this situation. I tired of reading about such things. They take a toll on the soul.

Warded: Father.

How are you?

Warded: Paul.

Such horrible news.

Warded: Severus.

How is your potions project going? I can't help but think about it, and hope for your success. I think our society could do with a bit of good news, these days.

These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which, as they kiss, consume.

Yes. Opening my journal has become synonym of horrible news too often, lately. It used to be a haven from it, but not anymore.

What are you doing today? If you're free, what would you say to go for a walk you and I?

Sounds like a good way to spend our afternoon. Or, well, part of it. I don't think I'm in good enough shape to run all afternoon.

I find myself doing rather more business by owl and journal. It seems there are fewer willing to venture out on the streets even in daylight.

I fear that it may be a very long time before we get good news from this particular project, but it is nice to be involved with something that could supply good news for a change. It does seem as if the larger part of anything one reads is bad news these days.

Your quote is rather accurate in that regard.

All too accurate, I'm afraid.

And yet, there seemed to be an outpouring of revelry last night, which I didn't really understand.

Daily Prophet? I was at the Hog's Head last night - apparently I pick fabulous nights to go out and have a 'nice, quiet drink' - and I suppose yes, there were a lot of people there, but I rather felt the paper made it seem a bit more... revelry-like than it truly was.

Although it was hardly gloom either.

I think sometimes when one has had so much darkness, one has to simply have something light. Whatever it is, and whether it feels appropriate or not. It is almost as if the human mind can only tolerate so much before something snaps, and better snapping revelry than whatever the hell happened with Jugson.

Rest assured, I am not inclined to take Rita Skeeter's words as gospel.

You have a point, of course. The gloominess does sometimes feel as if it is seeping into my bones, so I can only imagine how it must feel for those who have to deal with these tragedies first-hand every day.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply that you would. She seems to have a very distinct way of reporting information, but I am not inclined to trust its accuracy.

Do you at least get to avoid it at work?

It depend I suppose in a way of speaking. When I first begin working at the library it was as a direct result of the damage that had been done to the reference and special collections area and so not entirely, but these days there is less reminder of that, I think. Although I am afraid that eventually I am going to have to quit there if I wish a moment to myself. The potions projects will begin to take up more of my time I suspect.

Oh I I enjoy speaking with you as well, Amalie. And I think everyone could use a bright spot. I Perhaps we ought to make those bright spots less rare?

I think so. I can still spend time in the library with my books regardless of what my work is. And believe me, i have started looking at all sorts of books on potions - and lycanthropy as well, really. right now I feel as if the two are so completely related. And it's weird cause I know Master Bones isn't expecting me to have great insights on potions - I don't even have my Mastery yet - but I figure it's as good an opportunity as any to learn.

Well. I propose that we should continue talking in journals obviously.

I think it helps when it's something that is truly fascinating and all of the stuff I'm working on with potions - I mean, it's solving a mystery, isn't it?

Merlin, I do prattle on about it. I'm sorry.

Te Yes. I mean, if it's not too much bother. I'm certain you'll be tired after working all day, but tea after a long days work sounds lovely.
